Australia’s oldest bakery and South Australian icon Balfours introduces its first plant-based meat pie to complement its innovative range of fresh vegan pastries.

Balfours, Australia’s oldest bakery, established 1853, extends its range of premium fresh vegan savouries with the addition of a new plant-based no meat pie.

The 200g vegan-friendly pie is packed with textured vegetable protein, garden-fresh vegetables, quality herbs and spices, and all wrapped in Balfours signature golden pastry. The innovative fresh pie also boasts no artificial colours and a three-star health rating.

“Balfours is famed for its square pie, footy pie and giant sausage roll but as consumer’s expectations and tastes change so do we,” said Erik de Roos – Chief Marketing Officer, Balfours.

“We introduced our vegan-friendly range over 12 months ago, meeting the expectations and tastes of the modern consumer. We’re excited to now add to this range with our new plant-based meat pie, which should appeal to both vegans and flexitarians alike,” said de Roos.

The plant-based no-meat pie will be available exclusively from Balfours Marion and Balfours City Cross stores from November 5th and state-wide at Foodland and Romeo’s stores following, from 11th November.

Foodland is South Australia’s local, independently owned supermarket passionate about providing great food and supporting South Australian brands. The product will be available from their fresh meals’ refrigerators alongside Balfours other fresh vegan curried lentil and vegan mushroom and kale pies, roast vegetable pasty and potato, rosemary and leek savoury roll.

“Balfours is an iconic brand that we have all grown up with. And we continue to see them innovate in the baked goods category. This plant-based no meat pie is the perfect solution to our customers looking for a meat-free option and keen to support South Australians businesses. It delivers the perfect opportunity to demonstrate two iconic brands working together to offer South Australians unmatched innovation,” said James Zervas, Fresh Foods Category Manager, Foodland Supermarkets.

Balfours vegan fresh savouries will be available from all Foodland and Romeo’s stores from 11th November 2020.
